Making my mark. I've been a painter as long as I can remember. I started to paint when I was about twelve at the Des Moines, Iowa Art Center with Mrs. Ross. She told me I had a natural sense of color and I've been reveling in color ever since. At the University of Iowa I had the privilege of working with Carl Fracasini, a master of line and form. I also worked with Michael Tyzak, Byron Burford, Joe Patrick, Steven Schultz and Howard Rogovin. I have painted what was in me and I needed to express. I'm not sure who gave me the nerve to do that but I think it was my mother who was a poet. I've had the opportunity to work with children of all ages. I feel I gained as much as I gave from these experiences. I've seen in children the real joy of creation and freedom of expression. I marvel that people I know and many I do not wake up everyday and see the work of my hand. Art Photography by Kent Conklin.
